Abel Gonzalez has served as the chef at Bayside Seafood Grill & Bar since January 2000 where he oversees the menus, kitchens, and all day-to-day food preparation. Abel’s culinary career began in 1976 at the Witch’s Brew in Naples, where he held nearly all positions in the restaurant throughout his tenure. In 1979, Abel began more focused work as a chef, and his early apprenticeship was paused when he entered the United States Marine Corps in 1984.
Following his military service, Abel worked periodically at the Witch’s Brew again, the Sea Witch, Quail Creek, and Wilderness before finding a permanent home at Bayside.
Self-taught, Abel has benefitted from the tutelage of Gilbert “Frenchy” DuBois and a host of other Culinary Institute of America-trained chefs, imparting a classical French technique and appreciation for culinary excellence.
